Custom and Geographical Groups

Custom Groups and Geo-organizational Groups are features within the EvPortal that allow users to organize assets into logical units for management and reporting, as well as control access rights to specific assets within the platform.

Example for access rights: A CPO has multiple B2B customers and wants to give them viewing rights to only their specific locations. The CPO groups relevant locations into a Custom Group and grants access to each customer. Similarly, a CPO can give access to specific locations to a manufacturer for remote diagnostics. Example for customer segmentation: A CPO has a VIP customer and wants their locations grouped and easily identifiable so Customer Support can prioritize these cases. The CPO groups all relevant locations into a Custom Group called "VIP Customer".

Example for organizational grouping: A CPO with a regional organizational structure (e.g., North and South) wants to easily identify which Locations belong to each region. The CPO creates "geo-organizational" groups called "North" and "South" and adds the relevant Locations to them.

Example for Custom grouping: A CPO wants to indicate which Locations are in specific venue types, such as condominiums or supermarkets. The CPO creates Custom Groups and adds Locations accordingly. These groups can be used while viewing a Location or exported for further analysis.

While Geo-organizational and Custom Group share the same core functionality, they serve different purposes to help customers organize their assets:

  1. A Geo-organizational group is specifically for geographical areas such as North, South, or London.
  1. A Custom Group is more flexible and can be used for any type of grouping.

Each charge location can be optionally linked to one geo-organizational group (also called a contractual group). This is useful when CPOs need to assign different access rights based on geography or organization—for example, when one team manages the northern region while another handles the southern region.

EvPortal User Requirements:

  1. Permission: "Create/Delete/Read/Update Group" permissions are required, depending on the intended operation
  1. Example Roles: Admin and Group Manager roles have all the permissions listed above

Standard location viewing and editing roles allow users to view and add roles to a Location

Managing access rights

Similar to granting users access to a specific CPO contract or CPO, you can select a Custom or Geo-organizational group and specify roles.

This allows you to limit a user's access to specific locations.
