Navigation Service Providers - expose data to Google Maps

This article aims at exploring the topic around the way locations and EVSEs (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) are displayed in Google Maps.

GreenFlux does not have a direct connection with Google. As such, we indirectly provide data to google maps, through an NSP (Navigation Service Provider) we have a partnership with - Ecomovement.

Architecture and setup

It is important to refer that GreenFlux has little control over data that is displayed with Google maps. The interface we have with Google maps is through our NSP partner, Ecomovement, which provides inputs to Google maps about charging infrastructure. Upon proper onboarding, the data being provided by Ecomovement for each CPO operator gets preference vs data from other google data sources.

In terms of setup, when locations are shared with Ecomovement through OCPI (Open Charge Point Interface protocol), we pass along with it the operator information. For each distinct operator, an onboarding needs to be made in Ecomovement. Furthermore, it is crucial to map the phone number as well, as this is very relevant for EV Drivers to know how to reach out to us. This information is mapped in the CPO object in EV Portal:

BEST PRACTICE: Keep the Operator name (OCPI display name) simple. e.g. Use a single brand name across countries, Brand_example only, instead of Brand_example Netherlands, Brand_example Belgium, …

Onboarding (of your location data into Ecomovement NSP)

This is included as part of your services when you are a CPO operator with GreenFlux managed roaming services. If you have self-managed roaming services, certain commercial conditions may apply - check with your CSM (customer success manager) for more info.

Once a CPO has been created, the process for properly setting up the CPO takes place as per the following process:

I have issues with my data. What can I do?

When you (as CPO operator) face issues with your charging infrastructure data on google maps, you can perform the following actions:

  1. Check with your CSM to confirm that the onboarding of the concerned CPO has been performed (or is underway);
  1. If that is the case, you can reach out to Ecomovement's support, who then can troubleshoot it with Google:
    1. Reach out to support@eco-movement.com
    2. Inform them about:
      1. A couple of EVSE Ids
      2. What is being displayed and what should be there:
        1. e.g. Operator name shown is A, when it should be B
        2. e.g. incorrect website being provided
        3. Etc…

What if I as CPO want to update my brand / operator information?

Changes will be required on Ecomovement and Google as a consequence. Reach out to your CSM for this.
