MFA in EV Portal (Multi factor authentication)

Introduction

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a security feature that adds an extra layer of protection to your online accounts. MFA requires you to provide multiple forms of verification before granting access to your account. This instruction manual will guide you through setting up MFA using the Authenticator app or Mobile number, some widely used and trusted MFA methods.

What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a security process that requires users to provide two or more separate forms of identification before granting access to an account. These factors typically fall into three categories: something you know (password), something you have (a mobile device), and something you are (biometrics like fingerprints).

Why Use MFA?

Using MFA enhances the security of your online accounts by making it significantly harder for unauthorized users to gain access. Even if someone has your password, they won't be able to log in without the additional factor, which is typically a time-sensitive code generated by an authentication app like Authenticator or Mobile number.

Prerequisites

Before setting up MFA with Authenticator, ensure you have the following:

  1. A smartphone or tablet with the Authenticator app installed.
  1. Access to the account for which you want to enable MFA.
  1. A stable internet connection.

How to setup MFA on EV Portal

EV portal users can setup MFA with two different methods:

  1. Authenticator app (suggested)
  1. Mobile number

Setup with Authenticator app

Visit your device's app store (e.g., Apple App Store or Google Play Store).

Search for "Authenticator" and install the app.

Open the Authenticator app once it's installed.Log in to your account through the EV Portal, the process will guide you on the setup

Authenticator is the default method, so if you want to use this one you just neex to press "next" on the image below

The screen below shows that you selected Authenticator as method and you are now ready to setup it. Click on "next".

Now you need to scan the code to link EV Portal with Authenticator app. If you have trouble with the QR code you can click on "Can't scan image" and the system provides a link that you can use to perform the same action.

Once the code is scanned, clicking on the link provided by QR code, you are redirected to Authenticator app where the code for EV Portal is added.

You can click now on "next" to finish the proceed to last step.

Now you need to insert the code displayed in the Authenticator app to finish the setup

Congratulations! You've successfully set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on EV Portal. Your account is now more secure, and you will be prompted to provide the authentication code from the app whenever you log in. Keep your mobile device safe, and remember that MFA is an essential step in protecting your online accounts from unauthorized access.

Setup with Mobile number

To use the phone number instead of Authenticator, on the first screen you need to click on "I want to setup a different method"

And from the dropdown, select "Phone"

The wizard will ask you to add your phone number and to verify before completing the setup.

Login to EV portal with MFA

When you login to EV Portal, a pop up will appear requesting you to type the Authenticator number or the code sent by phoje (in case you selected mobile number as method of validation)

Once you add the code you can enter in EV Portal

Troubleshooting & Support

Lost or replaced device: If you lose or replace your mobile device, you'll need to follow the account recovery process provided by your service provider. This often involves using backup codes or contacting customer support.

Cannot scan QR code: If you're unable to scan the QR code, enter the setup key manually.

Codes not working: Ensure that the time on your device is synchronized correctly. The codes generated by Authenticator are time-dependent.
